Filmmakers have been shooting feature films in KwaZulu-Natal since the early decades of the 20th century, the majority of them South African productions others overseas features: British, German, American and, more recently, Bollywood productions. This is an attempt at listing them all &#; and to identify whereabouts in the province they were filmed.
Not all the films mentioned were shot here in their entirety; sometimes just a few sequences were filmed, and in one or two cases maybe they were not shot here at all. For example, several of the films here were made for the straight-to-video market and little can be found on their locations or even plot.
The initial filmography was created with assistance from Trevor Moses, researcher, National Film, Video and Sound Archives, Pretoria and the Witness&#;s Bollywood expert Devan Naidoo. Additions to it came from several readers and thanks is due in that regard to Bill Bizley, Wendy Grantham, Marge Heron, Pamela Oldfield, Susan Volans, Norman Werner and Carol Withers.
