Monetary Policy: Donald Trump Versus Jerome Powell?
President-elect Trump has, in the past, been at odds with Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell on monetary policy. Trump will likely favor lower interest rates and an easier monetary policy than Powell. However, Powell and the Fed act independently of the presidency, at least nominally, and when asked if he would step down if Trump asked him to, Powell said no.
Powell has said hes reluctant to lower interest rates until theres good evidence that inflation is headed toward the Feds 2% inflation goal. Such evidence will be difficult to come by in the next few months. It is unlikely that prices will continue their downward trend over the rest of the year.
Recently releasedinflation data for October show that consumer prices rose by % over the past calendar year, which does not look that close to 2% to me. However, prices fell in November and December of Since the beginning of , prices have risen by %. Any uptick in prices over the next two months will place the inflation rate for all of at or above 3%.
Should that occur, it would appear from Powells comments that he would be reluctant to lower interest rates early in at the beginning of Trumps term. That will put his agenda at odds with Trumps. I expect some

How the Amazon deal was done: Relationships, incentives and a hard decision by DeVoe Moore
When DeVoe Moore was a student at Florida State University, he was a blacksmith. He often traveled on Thornton Road to work for residents living on Buck Lake Road. Interstate 10 was still under construction.
The young man, born in in Spring Creek, North Carolina, a town populated by less than , was full of ambition and grit. Moore always admired the east Tallahassee property miles away from his garnet and gold-clad campus.
The blank slate represented possibilities.

"I’d look across that property as a student, and say, 'If I could ever own something like that, that would be OK,' " said Moore, his raspy voice laced with longing.
His fondness for Thornton Road and the people who lived by his beloved Antique Car Museum never ceased, not even when it came down to selling the large swath of land needed to hook the biggest commercial fish in Tallahassee's history — Amazon.
The world's largest e-commerce company found its way to Moore not because of glossy and polished presentations intended to convince companies into setting up shop in the capital city. Deeply rooted relationships deserve the credit, he says.
