    Kathmandu, July 25: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that national luminary Bhimsen Thapa is popular as a nationalist personality in the history of Nepal based on his deeds in life.

    He was speaking at a function held to mark the 248th birth anniversary of the national luminary Thapa. The function was organized to present the Bhimsen Thapa Memorial Award by the Bhimsen Thapa Memorial Foundation here today.

    "During his time Thapa led important economic reforms, organized measured system, worked for keeping records of important documents among others", the Prime Minister said while also discussing his contribution to the defense of the independence of Nepal.

    On the occasion, the President of the Foundation Dr. Partiveshwar Prasad Timalsina requested Prime Minister Deuba to make arrangements for the reconstruction of the Silkhana in Lagantol in its original form.

    At the function, the Bhimsen Thapa Memorial Award carrying a purse of Rs.100,000 was presented to the Bhakti Thapa Memorial Foundation.
