Apur Sansar (Bengali: অপুর সংসার), also known as The World of Apu, is a 1959 Indian Bengali-language drama film produced, written, and directed by Satyajit Ray. It is based on the second half of Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay's novel Aparajito. Following Pather Panchali (1955) and Aparajito (1956), The World of Apu is the final part of Ray's Apu Trilogy about the childhood and early adulthood of a young Bengali named Apu in early twentieth century India. The World of Apu stars Soumitra Chatterjee (as Apu) and Sharmila Tagore (as Apu's wife Aparna); both actors would go on to appear in many of Ray's subsequent films.
Upon its release on 1 May 1959, The World of Apu was well-received by critics. It won the Indian National Film Award for Best Feature Film, as well as several international awards, among them the Sutherland Award for Best Original And Imaginative Film and the National Board of Review Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

The Apu Trilogy comprises three Indian Bengali-languagedrama films directed by Satyajit Ray: Pather Panchali (1955), Aparajito (1956) and The World of Apu (1959). The original music for the films was composed by Ravi Shankar.
The films are based on two Bengali novels written by Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay: Pather Panchali (1929) and Aparajito (1932). The three films went on to win many national and international awards, including three National Film Awards and seven awards from the Cannes, Berlin and Venice Film Festivals. The films were produced on a shoestring budget[1] (Pather Panchali had a budget of roughly ₹ 150,000[2] ($45,300[3]—equivalent to $515,200 in 2023) using an amateur cast and crew.[4]
